**This information is shared for general information purposes only and is not intended to be used in place of a Doctor consultation or advice. Always seek expert advice from a qualified medical professional before starting/stopping any new protocols, health supplements, medications, or therapies.** Seeding of cancer cells can take place in wound sites, so it is important to take precautionary measures. Consider talking to your integrative health professional about the potential benefits of supplementing your diet with ground flaxseed and green tea extract one month prior to surgery, which may reduce tumour aggressiveness and KI67 activator protein. (Supplements will need to be discontinued two days before surgery). To limit metastasis risk, consider grape seed extract and absorbable curcumin alongside the green tea extract. Again, stop two days before surgery. Avoid the following supplements and health foods one week before surgery:Avoid all herbs and supplements that act as sedatives such as Saint John’s Wort, Valerian Root, Kava Kava, Ginseng, Panax Ginseng, Scullcap, Passion Flower, Hops, Melatonin, Inositol, GABA and 5-HTP. Avoid citrus, licorice root and lindera as these may increase blood pressure. Avoid peony root, milletia, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginkgo leaf, and high dose niacin or niacinamide as they dilute peripheral blood vessels. Avoid the following for a minimum of three days before surgery as they may cause clotting issues or bleeding:Garlic, Panax Ginseng or Panax Cinquefolium, Bromelain, Vitamin K, Salvia, Rehmannia, ligusticum, Ginger, Curcumin, Atractylodes, Carthamus, Reishi, Cordyceps, Co-enzyme Q10, Resveratrol, Green Tea EGCG Extract. Vitamin E is a risk to approximately 10% of the population in doses over 800IU. Vitamin C should not exceed 3 grams up to 3 days before surgery. Wound healing supports that can be taken proactively 2 weeks before surgery for those who have been nutritionally compromised, such as Vitamin C, Zinc Citrate, Vitamin A, and high protein. In immune-compromised patients it may be helpful to apply chlorhexidine topically (to the skin) after showering. This may reduce the risk of skin Pseudomonas growing in a wound.
